42 Duggone of Detroit’s hottest rap stars, is back with the moving and cathartic street missive, “Soon”, featuring Arabian.
Over understated piano, rubbery bass, string patches and trap drums, Dugg shows off his talent for understated melody, infusing his bars with a richness that’s doubled when he’s joined by Arabian, already heard blessing the hook of “Real N____s Never Die” from 2021.
For the chorus, the duo look for brighter days on the horizon as they sing “Soon I’ll be back to myself / Soon I won’t need nobody else / Who’ll be there for me when I have to need / Help me live and fulfill my dreams.” This is Dugg in his most vulnerable form, searching for answers and a guide to the future.
The new release follows Dugg’s April project with EST Gee, The last leftwhich debuted at No. 7 on the Billboard 200 and its 2021 mixtape, Free Dem Boyz. This solo set included star-studded collaborations with Future, Lil Durk, Rowdy Rebel, Fivio Foreign, and Gee. Free Dem Boyz debuted at No. 8 on the Billboard 200 in May – Dugg’s first Top 10 win – and spent eight weeks on the chart. It also featured “4 Da Gang” featuring Roddy Ricch, which samples Scorpion’s 1982 hit, “No One Like You.” This cut climbed the Hot 100, peaking at No. 67, and cracked Billboard’s Top 25 Hot Rap Songs.
Dugg recently appeared on 2 Chainz’ hit single, “Million Dollar Gambling.” The single is taken from 2 Chainz’ latest album, Dope does not sell.
On the track, 2 Chainz show off some of their world famous puns, rapping, ‘Back on my pivot, kitchen, water whip’ / All those turkey bags, they thought it was Thanksgiving / Don’t make me not get all my money out / I don’t trip / Long ass nose on the sticks, I got the pimp.
In the video, 2 Chainz and Dugg rock Balclavas and party in a massive, luxurious mansion alongside a number of female friends. Dugg, supporting his Detroit roots, wears a Pistons jersey.
