LUCKNOW Samajwadi (SP) National Chairman Akhilesh Yadav announced on Thursday that if his party returns to power in the state, he would reinstate the old monthly pension scheme enjoyed by state employees, who defended him since a long time. He said the Yash Bharati Awards and the new ‘Nagar Bharati Awards would also be introduced.

“Upon coming to power, we will reintroduce Yash Bharati rewards, which were first introduced by Netaji’s (Mulayam Singh Yadav) government and carried over in the previous PS government. Our governments used to honor eminent personalities in various fields such as art, culture, music, literature, sports, etc. for their contribution to the respective fields,” Akhilesh told a press conference at the party headquarters.

Modeled after the state award, Yash Bharati, the government will also introduce the Nagar Bharati awards at the district level, the SP chief has said.

The former chief minister has announced that the monthly pension scheme for state employees, which existed in the previous PS government, will be reintroduced. It was halted by the BJP government.

“These pledges will be incorporated into the SP manifesto, which we will release after the BJP releases its manifesto,” Akhilesh said.

On the feasibility of the promises he announced one after the other, Akhilesh said, “We are going to build a corpus for the pension scheme so that there is no problem in paying the pension. All promises – whether it is the 300 free units of electricity for domestic consumers or the monthly pension for state employees – are made after consultation with financial experts regarding the feasibility of implementation . The SP is known for keeping the promises it makes.

ON KESHAV PRASAD MAURYA

On the backward BJP leader and Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya, Akhilesh said, “For 4.5 years he faced insults and disrespect in the BJP government. He (Keshav Maurya) could do nothing for his ‘samaj’ (backward community).

ON THE CANDIDACY OF THE CHIEF OF THE ARMY OF BHIM

When asked to comment on Chandrashekar Azad’s candidacy for the seat of Gorakhpur Sadar, from where UP CM Yogi Adityanath is contesting the polls, Akhilesh said: “The PS will decide the seat. Several party people asked for the party ticket from the seat. Just today, a family (a political family) came to meet me about the siege. We will decide. The PS is likely to present a Brahmin candidate for the seat of Gorakhpur Sadar.

ON ALLEGATION OF CRIMINAL CASES ON SP CANDIDATES

“The IPC does not have as many sections as the chief minister and deputy chief ministers have the number of cases against them,” Akhilesh said.
