A Yorkshire woman who was escorted off a Jet2 plane for ‘aggressive, abusive and dangerous behaviour’ says she attempted suicide in the distress of the incident.
Catherine Bush has been banned for life by Jet2 and fined £5,000 after footage emerged of her screaming in the face of airline workers on a flight to Turkey.
She has now written to Jet2 to apologize for her behavior which she described as ‘unruly, aggressive and despicable’. She said she felt ashamed and embarrassed – and said she had been drinking too much alcohol and not taking her medication for a mental health issue.
She has now revealed in an email seen by Yorkshire Live what happened when the plane landed in Austria and she was taken away by the police.
She said in an apology email to Jet2: “When I was taken off the plane and released by the Austrian authorities, I unfortunately attempted to kill myself and was arrested by the Austrian police. who then took me to a psychiatric ward in Vienna.
“I was tied to the bed by my arms and legs and given strong sedatives because I was so hysterical and a danger to myself and others. I was there just over a day before I was allowed out of my links.
“The psychiatric nurse told me that I had a psychotic episode. I have experienced psychosis before because of my mental health and it was very scary and confusing for me.”
However, she doesn’t want to be seen as making excuses for her behavior.
She told Jet2: “I would like to reiterate that this will never justify my actions on this aircraft, but I felt I had to let you know how difficult it is for me to complete the simplest of tasks. , things that ordinary people take for granted. . “I feel suicidal again and overwhelmed by the whole situation.
