Even when there were quite a few media outlets and agencies predicting a double-digit opening for Radhe Shyam, we at KoiMoi were the only ones predicting a start in the range of 5-6 crores the best. It’s odd that the signs weren’t read well in advance as the writing was clear on the wall once the promo was unveiled. The dull silence at the time itself was an indicator of how bad things had gotten at this point itself.
The promo was all over the place as there was confusion around what the film was about. Is it a love story? Is it palmistry? Is this an attempt to recreate the Titanic? Is it a musical? Is it a fantasy? So many questions arose and with no real momentum in the promotion post that with surprisingly even the songs (though they are good) not really available for consumption, it was obvious that the star of Prabhas and Pooja Hegde will struggle .
That’s exactly what happened because, despite a well-spread release, audiences simply weren’t there for the film. Openness was weak, and rest was assured by poor word of mouth and a lack of critical appreciation. As a result, the film had the first day of 5.10 crore*, which is actually on the lower side of our predicted rage. Considering the momentum The Kashmir Files is building and the fact that Gangubai Kathiawadi is still doing well, Radhe Shyam will also struggle for the rest of the weekend.
*Estimates. Final figures expected
