Ponniyin Selvan seems to be Mani Ratnam’s crowning achievement as he delivers a stunning performance all over the world. According to trade reports, a lot of anticipation worked and filled theaters. On Saturday, during the second day of the film’s release, the director revealed how much the film earned worldwide in two days.

On Saturday, Lyca Productions, who financed the film, took to Twitter and wrote, “Thank you for giving PS 1 the biggest opening day ever for Tamil cinema worldwide.” The production house said that Ponniyin Selvan has grossed a whopping Rs 80 crores worldwide. The poster read, “The biggest opening day ever for Tamil cinema.”

The adaptation of Kalki Ponniyin Selvan’s historical novel was transported to Tamil actors and directors like MG Ramachandran and Kamal Haasan, who had tried but ultimately gave up. Finally, he has now successfully transitioned from pen to screens, via Mani Ratnam. Informed sources said that the number of screens and spectators for the first part of Ponniyin Selvan will increase as the weekend approaches.

A renowned film analyst has reported that Ponniyin Selvan 1 is Tamil Nadu’s third highest grossing on opening day after Beast and Valimai, while Kamal Haasan’s Vikram ranks fourth. He wrote: “Thanks to over 26.6 cr in Tamil Nadu, #PonniyinSelvan is the third biggest opening day for the year 2022.”

Produced by Lyca Productions and Madras Talkies, Ponniyin Selvan has its music composed by AR Rahman and Ravi Varman for the cinematography. While Sreekar Prasad took care of the editing, Thota Tharani took care of the artwork. The film was released on September 30 in five languages: Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi.

While the role of Aditha Karikalan is portrayed by Vikram, Kundavai is portrayed by Trisha and Jayam Ravi sported the role of Arulmozhi Varman. Vallavarayan Vanthiyathevan is played by Karthi, and Nandini is played by Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.
