Story Garage is gearing up to host its first Market Square Vintage & Maker Market on Saturday, October 1 at Market Square in Black Rock (11am-4pm). Neil Gerard, owner of The Story Garage, has managed to gather over 40 vendors for the auspicious occasion, which will showcase vintage goods, regional makers, a food truck (M&S Street Eats) and live music. The event is co-organized by the BRR|Alliance.
This new marketplace venture is the culmination of much of what Gerard has been striving to achieve since moving his vintage furniture and homeware business to Niagara Street. When I first spoke to him about setting up shop in Black Rock, he mentioned that he was keen to use the nearby market square in a way that would pay homage to his roots.
Now that day has come.
“It’s a rain or shine event, with most outside vendors bringing their tents,” Gerard said. “We have 15 salespeople already setting up shop in The Story Garage on the first floor of my building, so we could probably squeeze a few more in if it rains. But the hope is that it will be a beautiful day!
Hopefully, this will be the first in a long series and signal to other marketers at WNY that Market Square is ripe for the picking, when considering venue locations to accommodate outdoor markets.
As for the live music at the upcoming Vintage & Maker Market, Grace Lougen (of Grosh) will perform from 1-3 p.m.
