Manchester gay nightclub says it ‘will not tolerate’ abuse after staff member posts racist meme online

A Manchester gay nightclub has said it ‘would not tolerate’ abuse after a member of its staff posted a racist meme online.

The staff member has since left the company following an investigation, the venue confirmed.

Popular club Cruz 101, based in the heart of Manchester’s gay village, have taken to social media to say they ‘do not tolerate any form of racism’.

It comes after the staff member allegedly shared a meme on Instagram.

The post was deleted shortly after, but screenshots were later shared on social media.

In a statement released Tuesday, February 1, Cruz 101 said, “We are aware of the situation currently circulating on social media.

“Cruz 101 does not tolerate any form of racism. We are reviewing this immediately and will provide a further update as soon as possible.”

People were quick to share their views, with one user writing, “There is no place for racism or any other form of hate in an inclusive LGBTQIA+ space.

“A member of staff has been suspended to assist in the investigation and no further comment will be made during this process.

“While we appreciate everyone’s frustration, there is a process we must follow.”

In an update on Friday, the club said: “Earlier this week, a member of our staff made a serious error in judgment and shared a racist post on Instagram.

“Following an investigation, this member of staff no longer works for our company.

“As this former employee posted this post at his own pace and on his own personal page, it sparked a very important conversation about how people of color feel in all LGBTQ+ spaces.

“We are committed to continuing our work as a diverse and inclusive club at the heart of the LGBTQ+ community in Manchester, and while we are currently discussing many ideas which we hope to bring to you soon, we have some things we can put forward. implemented immediately.

“Our zero-tolerance policy for any abuse will be reinforced. Our managers will be available all night, anytime, to report incidents of abuse.

“Whether it’s racism, transphobia, homophobia or whatever. They will take immediate action to address this issue. As a guest, just ask to see the manager at reception.

“All of our employees will receive training and have a clear process to follow if they see or hear any form of abuse.

“With these commitments, we will solidify a culture that encourages incitement to hatred. We will not tolerate it.”
