Music is an important part of the project, seen recently in a series of school workshops in which 150 young people from high schools in Coffs Harbor, Orara, Woolgoolga and Toormina participated using songwriting to explore the theme of racism.
âThe Grow the Music studio in Toormina led the production of the singing and awareness workshops.
âA big part of our job is to use and pay for local artists. “
The next step will be to create a music video for the song with local filmmakers.
Looking ahead to September, we will develop a theater project in collaboration with local schools incorporating Bystander Anti-Racism Training.
âThis training will teach people how to act when they see racism,â said Dianne.
âThe second part of the project will see the theater troupe create scenes with an open ending, inviting the audience to decide how they might intervene as a spectator.
“We are going to broadcast the theater project to schools at the beginning of 2022.”
A youth action collective is being set up to lead the execution of the project.
âWe are inviting young people from all local high schools in the Coffs area to a one-day seminar / workshop to introduce them to the project,â said Dianne.
âWe strongly invite a strong indigenous presence into the program, being very aware of the importance of the indigenous lands on which we are located. “
All One Under the Sun is a STARTTS-led program supported by Headspace Coffs Harbor, Coffs Harbor City Council, Coffs Harbor Local Indigenous Lands Council and Blue Sky Community Services.
