It’s been a great week to be a Philadelphia Phillies fan. The Phillies (69-55, 36-29 at home) had won three straight starters on Thursday and will welcome 2022 NL MVP Bryce Harper back to the roster on Friday after a two-month absence.
Harper’s first game back will be against the lowly Pittsburgh Pirates (47-77, 21-41 away), which is surely more musical for Philadelphia fans.

Philadelphia opened with -255 moneyline favorites in a contest that features an 8.5 total. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. ET at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, Pa., with a risk of thunderstorms and temperatures of 83 degrees during the game in the forecast.
Pittsburgh vs. Philadelphia Likely Pitchers
The Phillies, who come into play as contenders for the World Series’ top 10 ratings, are set for a big night offensively. That’s because they’ll face 24-year-old Bryse Wilson, who can’t seem to keep the ball in the garden.
Bryse Wilson is like the Tristan Jarry of baseball. Good, good, good, good… whoa, mate. What are you doing?
Anyway, give up another circuit. Solo shot by TJ Friedl. The reds in front, 3-0.

He allowed seven homers in four starts in August, posting a 4.37 ERA along the way. Wilson coughed up seven runs and 11 hits over his last 12 innings on the job, and was crushed by the Philadelphia roster on a small sample.
Wilson allowed 10 of the 23 batters he faced to reach base, producing a .739 hitting percentage and 1.219 OPS. Just another reason for Phillies fans to get excited.
Wilson vs. Falter Stats
With the Phillies hitters poised for success, it could be a long night for the Pirates bats. That’s because Philadelphia starter Bailey Falter has been throwing really well lately.
The 25-year-old has allowed just three runs and seven hits over his last 12 innings, and is just one start away from closing Pittsburgh. Falter held the Pirates to two runs in 6 innings just under a month ago, scattering five hits and striking out eight.
Bailey Falter will start in place of Zack Wheeler tomorrow night against the Pirates.
Wheeler is eligible to be activated on September 6, but at this time we don’t know anything about the injury.

He’s been in and out of the rotation all season and is getting another start on Friday thanks to Zack Wheeler’s injury. Wheeler was recently placed on the IL list for undisclosed reasons.
Pirates vs Phillies betting analysis
Philadelphia topped the season series, winning all four matchups by a combined 10 points. Punters expect more of the same on Friday and so should we. The Phillies were already a top-seven offense and now they’re adding one of baseball’s top three hitters into the mix.

Harper was ripping the ball cover off when he fell, posting a .318 average with 15 home runs and 48 RBIs. Last year’s leader in NL MVP odds looked like himself on a recent minor league assignment, going 5 for 8, with two home runs and six RBIs.
Craziest thing about Bryce Harper: Even after missing more than two months, he’s still the Phillies’ second most valuable player by fWAR with 2.7, just behind JT Realmuto.
It’s funny how he was kind of glossed over that he was on an MVP pace before his injury.

Philadelphia has a slash line of .292/.335/.454 in August, which is their best mark of any month. They are averaging five runs per contest and have hit 30 homers for the fourth month in a row.
Things are a little less rosy for Pittsburgh, to say the least. They have lost five in a row and 11 of their last 13 games overall. They rank second to last in MLB in points differential and last in the NL in points per game, average, slugging and OPS. The Pirates have reduced 0.215/0.273/0.333 over the past 14 days, averaging just 3.2 runs per outing.
PIT vs PHI Last 10 Meetings

Pick Pirates vs. Phillies
Pittsburgh has been outscored by 31 points in its recent five-game skid, while 12 of its last 14 losses have come by multiple runs. With a struggling Wilson on the mound against one of baseball’s most powerful rosters, expect a similar result on Friday.
Philadelphia has won eight of the last nine matchups in the series, winning six times by multiple runs. Ask the -1.5 with the Phillies.
Pick: Philadelphia Phillies -1.5 (-120)
