Rochester’s most famous musician you’ve never heard of

This weekend in Rochester

It’s the talk of the town, and for good reason – we’re halfway there SocialICE. Head to Peace Plaza from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays to enjoy music, specialty drinks from five local establishments and, of course, to check out the ice sculptures. If you have little ones following you, shoot FAM JAM from SocialICE From 1 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays for a more family experience.

If you get up early on Saturday morning, go to the Château for the Celebration of the first anniversary of the Books and Records Collective. See special and rare vinyls brought in exclusively for the party, a foosball tournament, book autographs by local children’s book author Brandon Vreeman, and Rochester’s first open-spoken spoken word mic. It’s free and it starts at 9 a.m.

Finally, Fields Hall will be jostling this Sunday afternoon when Loud Mouth Brass takes the stage as part of the Jazz in Les Fields Hall musical series. You can’t go wrong listening to live jazz music, so if you’re looking for a break in the snow, head to the third floor of the castle from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

New music: “Blur”, author

Indie rock band Author, who has roots in Minneapolis and Rochester, is releasing his new track “Blur” this weekend. Brothers Bartlett Cameron and Trevor are in Minneapolis, but bassist Zach Zurn lives in Rochester and operates Carpet Booth Studios – that’s where the song was recorded. This is the group’s first release since their album Is it far or is it near, which was released on the first day of 2018. “Blur” hits all streaming services when the clock strikes midnight Saturday… listen to it. It’s a group of three good guys and I can’t wait to learn more.
