TNT coach Chot Reyes says that for Tropang GIGA to have a chance of beating Barangay Ginebra they need to contain Scottie Thompson.

Chot on Scottie Thompson

Reyes said he believed Thompson provided the big plays for Ginebra that TNT did not respond to. Thompson had 23 points, 15 rebounds and eight assists in the Gin Kings’ 104-92 win over TNT to force a game rubber.

“We have to be able to stop Scottie,” Reyes said. “I thought Brownlee had a great game, but Scottie made the difference. Not only his 23 points but his 15 rebounds and eight assists, I thought he made the big plays.

“We need someone to contain and stop Scottie,” Reyes said.

Third-seeded TNT after finishing the eliminations with a 7-4 win-loss record was forced into a rubber game against sixth-placed Barangay Ginebra on Saturday.

Even before the contest, Reyes said the team already knew beating Ginebra was going to be a tough task.

“That’s why we worked hard to get the advantage of the double, in situations like this. We had no illusions that this trip was easy and now we face a must-have game for the next one,” Reyes said.

Reyes also lamented the 33 points TNT gave up in fourth with 10 from Justin Brownlee and nine from Thompson.

“It’s part of the game. They found a good rhythm. Like I said, nobody ever said they were an easy team to beat. Tough teams, they are good inside and they are good outside. It is up to us to ensure that we are able to contain and defend this. We gave up 33 points in the fourth quarter and that’s why we lost,” Reyes said.
