Nikamma opened on expected lines as 51,000,000 entered. Those numbers are low, but then on lines expected as pre-pandemic, it would have opened in 2-3 crores range and collections are down to 25% on average post-pandemic now for the majority of releases, as has been the trend for the past 6-8 months. Thereby, 51,000,000 is roughly an equal score.
That said, it’s not like the manufacturing cost has dropped to 25%, which means the theatrical business is still big. Of course, OTT came to the rescue for most movies because pre-selling the rights there resulted in a nice cost covered up front. Plus, there’s always satellite and music. Also, Nikamma isn’t too expensive either, and therefore if there is an increase in collections over the weekend, there could well be some kind of theatrical activity.
The stars of Abhimanyu Dasani, Shirley Setia and Shilpa Shetty are mainly for single screens and centers of mass, hence the hope that the steps here would improve, especially today and better. However, the jump should be large and ideally collections should exceed the 1 crore score today. If this indeed turns out to be the case, then Nikamma might just enjoy a week open to himself since there are no other new Hindi releases for the competition.
Note: All collections according to production and distribution sources
