Spring has arrived for the annual cleaning sale

Spring has arrived and spring cleaning is underway, even at the library. The Cheboygan Area Public Library will be hosting a one-day indoors spring cleaning sale only, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday, May 27, in the gallery on the lower level of the library. Over the years, the library has accumulated a few more items that have either been upgraded or haven’t been used for some time. Therefore, it is time for these items to find a new home so that the library can continue to utilize storage space and purchase new items for the benefit of the community.

During the big spring sale, there will be an additional day of book sales with the Friends of the Library. The Friends of the Library manage the Book Nook and are regularly open on Tuesdays and Saturdays from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. also. So be sure to find a treasure or two while you support the library. Again, this will be a one-day sale only, Friday, May 27, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Coming in June, the “Oceans of Possibilities” summer reading program begins June 1 at 6 p.m. in the Kindergarten. The whole family is invited to come and enjoy a story with Mrs. Nancy, a delicious watermelon, garden games and more. Children will also be able to purchase a summer reading kit. The kit will contain a list of all the upcoming fun activities, some goodies, as well as reading charts to help track their reading time for the reading challenge. Please note that if it is raining that day, the party will simply move indoors. Be sure to put the launch party on your calendar. We would love to see you there. The event is free and open to the community, so bring your friends and family of all ages.

Also, be sure to have some fun with Jackie and Gary, performing their music program “Singing the Good Old Songs Again” at 6 p.m. on June 3 at the Cheboygan Area Public Library. This folkloric musical duo will offer you an evening of great pleasure. They combine “classic” and original folk songs into an energetic, entertaining and fun show. There’s a lot of interaction, participation and humor with the audience…as well as personal insights and stories with the songs they sing.

The Friends of the Library will hold a meeting at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, June 14 at the library. This meeting is open to anyone interested in meeting the members of the group of friends while enjoying snacks and book recommendations. There will be ‘business’ being conducted if visitors want to stay and find out what’s going on at one of the quarterly Friends meetings, but if you just want to come say hello and hear what the Friends group is all about, then this is a great opportunity.

Another June event will include an outdoor family movie. The Cheboygan Area Public Library will perform Disney/Pixar’s “Luca” on Friday, June 17 at dusk in the Kindergarten. Set in a beautiful seaside town on the Italian Riviera, this original feature film is a coming-of-age story about a young boy who experiences an unforgettable summer filled with gelato, pasta and endless scooter rides. .

Luca shares these adventures with his new best friend, Alberto, but all the fun is threatened by a well-kept secret: they are otherworldly sea monsters just below the water’s surface (PG rated). Bring your family and friends for this fun, free outdoor movie in the garden of the Cheboygan Area Public Library. Feel free to bring camping chairs and/or lawn blankets. Plus, bring an appetite for the popcorn. The Cheboygan Area Public Library will be giving away free Kingston popcorn at the event.
