You thought you’d seen it all in 2020. Then came Vin Diesel abandoning his early days in dance music.
You didn’t see it coming.
That’s right, the normally sullen “Furious” star Diesel recorded “Feel Like I Do” on Norwegian DJ Kygo’s Palm Tree Records. The song dropped on Spotify and Apple Music on Friday and premiered on the Kelly Clarkson Show.
And it is irrepressibly happy.
Diesel can break the bass voice, and he did. But it’s usually about more serious stuff, like the tribute song “See You Again” to late “Fast & Furious” co-star Paul Walker (or Rihanna’s occasional karaoke song)
âI’ve turned to more soulful songs in the past,â Diesel told USA TODAY via email. “But everyone knows I love all music. Making music was something I first did for my family.”
Diesel says that after recording the song Sunny, written and produced by Petey Martin of Palm Tree Records, he performed it for his father, Irving.
âI remember my dad listened to this song on the beach earlier this year. He really liked it and he said it should be the first song,â he says.
There are no plans to release the “Feel Like I Do” dance clip to show the moves. Still. Diesel’s next step in dance music is unclear.
âIt’s a new world for me. I’m just grateful that I can make music,â says Diesel, who adds what he really feels. “The simple answer is … blessed.”
âFast & Furious 9â is set for release on May 22, 2021, and that could lead to a natural mix of talent on the road.
“‘Fast: the musical.’ Yes, please, “jokes Diesel. “Sign me up.”
