Guitar, piano, drums and vocals.

These are just a few of the instruments that come to mind when Wannanup resident Jye Criddle thinks about when he started playing music at the age of 10.

Now 19 years old and still a talented musician, Jye, alongside his fellow bandmates in Intrusion, is in the running for the Western Australian Music Song of the Year award.

“I joined the program called Rock Scholars in 2017. They bring young kids together in bands, give you concerts and promote you,” Jye said.

“It’s a great program for young people.

“I’ve been with my Intrusion group for four and a half years now, so we’re a very tight-knit group. “

The song of intrusion, Sincerity was nominated in the “Outstanding Regional Category”, which is their second nomination after being shortlisted for the same award in 2019 for their song titled Rage.

This is not the first time that Jye has been recognized for his musical talent as he was chosen to perform at the Fairbridge Festival in 2019 and Intrusion was named “Band of the Year” by Rock Scholar in 2017.

As the songwriter and lead singer of the nominated song, Jye said it was amazing that she was recognized.

“I write the lyrics and the guitarist write the music, and then everyone fulfills their roles,” he said.

“It’s quite overwhelming. It’s nice to be recognized after writing for so long.

“To be nominated for an award is pretty amazing and we’re very proud of it.”

The post-90 progressive rock song Sincerity will be available to everyone in August.

Sincerity It’s about coming of age and what you want to do for the rest of your life and figuring out who you are as a person, ”Jye said.

“We’re releasing this song in August so it’s really exciting.”

Jye said he can’t wait to play the song live.

“I just want to go as far as I can and keep playing concerts and releasing music,” he said.

“It’s fun to see people sing your songs to you and it’s good to know that people appreciate and respond to your music.

“If the opportunity presented itself I would love to play with the band full time. That’s my goal.”

This year’s nominees are up for a share of over $ 45,000 in prizes and the opportunity to join the star ranks of previous winners such as Stella Donnelly, The Waifs and Methyl Ethel.

The awards will take place at Freo.Social on June 30.
